HALLOWEEN HISTORY:

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'ens) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints.

Originally Halloween was a pagan festival, around the idea of linking the living with the dead, when contact became possible between the spirits and the physical world, and magical things were more likely to happen. Like most pagan festivals, long ago it was abosrbed into the festivals of the expanding Christian church, and became ssociated with All Hallows Day, or All Saints Day, which eventually fell on November 1.

The celebration of Halloween survived most strongly in Ireland. It was an end of summer festival, and was often celebrated in each community with a bonfire to ward off the evil spirits. Children would go from door to door in disfuise as creatures from the underwolrd to collet treats, mainly fruit, nuts and the like for the festivities. These were used for playing traditional games like eating an apple on a string or bobbing for apples and other gifts in a basin of water, without using your handd. Salt might as ghoulish faces to hold candles became a popular part of the festival, which has been adapted to carving pumpkins in America.

The day is often associated with the colours black and orange, ands is strongly associated with symbols like the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films!!

Dialogue 3: OFFER AND ASK FOR HELP

Carlota: A barbecue was a great idea, Sergi.
Sergi: Yes, thanks. T'im looking forward to it.
Carlota: Have we got everything?
Sergi: Well, we've got enought food, but there isn't much to drink.
Carlota: Shall I get a few cartons of juice or something? There's a shop near here.
Sergi: Would you mind?
Carlota: No, that's fine.
Sergi: Thanks, Carlota. Could you get a bag of ice too? And we need a bag for the rubbish.
Carlota: Ok, no problem. I'll see what they've got.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTO

Liked the movie, but think the novel looks too long to read? Here's the perfect compromise - the comic book version of Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! The art work brilliantly captures the atmosphere of the novel, with super-hacker Lisbeth Salander punkier and more intriguing than in either of the two movie versions.

THE WALKING DEAD

If you reading this then 2012 wasn't the end of the world... so you can relax and enjoy some of the many apocalyptic films and TV series. The Walking Dead is one of the best. Now in its third season in the US, it is still playing to record audiences. Based on the iconic comic book series by Robert Kirkman, it is scary, funny and addictive. Naturally there is blood and violence (it is rated 16 in France) but it also makes you think. How do humans live together when traditional institutions and authority are gone? And how difficult is to kill a loved one, even if that person is now a zombie? Marjolaine Boutet.

REVOLUTION

This is the new series by the talented J.J.Abrams (Alias, Lost, etc). It is set in a post-apocalyptic world, 15 years after an unknown phenomenon disabled electricity on the planet, taking people back to a world of seords, horses, warlods and... no internet! As usual with Abrams, the idea is interesting, but the heroine's (Tracy Spiridakos) lack of charisma can be annoying, as can the many inconsistencies in the story's development. Yet the mystery is intriguing and there are enought great sword fights and efficient cliffhangers to make the series a hit in the States. Will you become a fan?

MICHAEL FASSBENDER

Nobody has better taste in actors than Quentin Trantino. So when the famous director cast relatively unknown Fassbender in Inglourious Basterds, the actor looked to become a major star. A serious actor (he lost almost 20 kilos to play an IRA hunger-strujer in Hunger), Fassbender is also at home in an action movie like X-Men: First Class (X-Men: Le commencement). Some people found Ridley Scott's science-ficiton spectacular Prometheus disappointing, but everyone was unanimous about how good Fassbender was as the anroid David. It has now been confirmed that he is going to star in a film version of the blockbuster video game franchise Assassin's Creed.

Dialogue 2: TALK ABOUT TV PROGRAMMES

Sergi: Hi, Carlota. Did you go out last night?
Carlota: No, I stayed in a watched TV.
Sergi: Oh? What was on?
Carlota: That a film in a Channel four.
Sergi: Oh, yes? Was it any good?
Carlota: Yes, it was great. Didn't you see it?
Sergi: No I missed it. I was meeting friends.
Carlota: You should try to watch in next time. it's really good.
Sergi: Ok then, I will.

Writing: A FILM YOU ENGOY

The last movie I saw was with my friends, and is The Hangover 2: Now in Thailand. This film is directed by Todd Phillips, and is made by Zach Galifianakas, Ed. Helms, Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Jamie Chung, Ken Jeong and his other secondary characters.

The film expalins: Alan, Stu and Phil wake up again in another room in antoher hotel, this time then do not remember anything. This time we only know they are in Thailand, were they have travelled, along with Soug, to attend Stu's weeding to Lauren. The main problem: Lauren's younger brother, Teddy, has disappeared. And to find him they try to rebuild their last night, which apparently has had monkeys, monks, transsexuals, tattos...

The film is very good, makes you laught nice, cause it's funny. Therefore, I recomemend it to you.

Writing 2: Write about TV highlights

TV HIGHLIGHTS

The highlight of this week's TV was definitely the talent show: "La Voz". In the last episode half of the participants were eliminated batting ainst components in the same group.

Channel 6's drama series "Stolen children" was also worth watching. In Wednesday's episode, the protagonist discovered me was a stolen child. And that his real mother was thought to be dead. Exciting stuff!

Finally, something which also caught my eye was a story on yestarday's news. A man made the crossing of Lake Banyoles in 18,45 minutes. It's a good story, because this man made a new challenge for all participants.
